   What Are The Reasons Why Bakery Products Are Bad For Your Health?

 The observation and expatiation on this public health emergency came out of an encounter that I had in 2011, when I bought fishpie from a grocer hawking it in the street. While in the process of ingesting the fishpie, a chunk of it dropped from my hands to the back of the chair, I was sitting on while eating the fishpie and was inadvertently left there for more than a week. 

     Fortunately, for what will be discovered which led to my writing this article, and to my chagrin, I found the chunk of the pie that dropped from my hand behind the chair in the same state it was when I bought it. Almost two weeks later, it did not change colour! It did not grow moulds despite the present high humidity ( moisture in the air) and tropical temperature which normally favour the growth of fungi, specifically moulds which saprophytically feed on carbohydrate rich food substances. 

It ought to look like this, mouldy after more than a week.


What I was privileged to observe from this fish pie was an anomaly, it was not natural! The observed anomaly does not agree with the dynamics of biology, namely; recycling in nature( biological decomposition).

        Some years later, while in the university, 2017 precisely, during my final year stint at Awo. hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U.) campus, Nigeria, I related this observed anomaly to a friend who had worked with bakers in Lagos State, Nigeria. What he told me shocked me! He confirmed to me that, what I observed from the fishpie is abnormal but not strange to him. He said, bakers in Nigeria do make use of embalming chemicals to prolong the shelf life of the products which makes them not to go bad for weeks! 

Embalming chemicals that are used to prevent corpses from decomposing in mortuaries! This is very dangerous and inimical to public health! In what ways?

A combination of embalming chemicals.


In Pharmaceutical microbiology, there are chemicals called biostatic and biocides, employed in chemotherapeutic cure of pathogenic diseases, these chemicals are popularly known as antibiotics.

 Biostatic antibiotics work by preventing bacteria cells from carrying metabolic processes making them weak and vulnerable to phagocytes. 

Biocidal antibiotics outrightly kill bacteria.

In pharmaceutical microbiology, there are plethora of antibiotics synthesized for chemotherapeutic purposes. A lot of them can not and must not be ingested by human being, they are poisonous to human body: the reason why we have topical antibiotics in the form of gels that must not be ingested.


What am I trying to draw out from here? What I am trying to draw out from this expatiation should be simple enough for many people to know, if my expatiation on antibiotics is clear to us.


     The use of embalming chemicals by Nigerian bakers as preservatives is highly dangerous and inimical to public health. Embalming chemicals are among the antibiotics that must not be ingested by human being. Embalming chemicals are for embalming corpses, not for human consumption! These kind of chemicals ( antibiotics) are slow poison, mutagen, tetratogen, carcinogens, metabolic pathway disruptors and GIT Flora biocides

Mutagen cause genetic mutation that can lead to abnormal cell function and cell growth(cell proliferation) leading to tumour.
•Carcinogen cause cancers


•Metabolic pathways disruptors can cause diabetes, kidney and liver failure or as a whole, multiple organ failures when it gets to a head!
GIT Microflora biocides: cause normal flora death or destabilization. 
Normal flora death is the depopulation of the good microorganisms that inhabit the gut of human beings which aid the digestion of the food that human being ingest and perform the function of synthesizing vitamins and other useful by-products while in the process of food digestion.
The depopulation or death of the GIT microflora/ normal flora does lead to

the proliferation of harmful bacteria and yeast which damage the GIT, 
disrupts normal digestive processes, leading to indigestion e.g.fermentation of food in the GIT, producing harmful by products which leaks into the blood stream causing inflammation ( immunological response to the presence of foreign agent in the blood stream) leading to autoimmune diseases.
extra burden and hyper stressing of the excretory organ, as exhibited in cirrhosis of the liver, malfunction or impairment of the kidney.

Recommendations

    In the light of what have been delineated on the dangers of embalming chemicals to the public health, it is advised that we must help ourselves by cutting back on the consumption of junk food. The use of embalming chemicals is rife in the production of junk foods which are the major food products in bakeries.
